Celebrate International Women’s Day with us!
#ChooseToChallenge

International Women’s Day is just around the corner, and on Sunday 7 March, 3-5pm Women4Women in Lee are holding a “tea and cake” event to mark it. Given that we can’t meet in person, we will be running this event via zoom on:

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89253164742?pwd=N1FqMS8xV2Q5M2xoQVJKejdrRkJlQT09

Meeting ID: 892 5316 4742   Passcode: 406897

The theme for this year is #ChooseToChallenge, which calls on us to challenge gender bias and inequality, as well as those limiting stereotypes that hold us all back, whatever our gender. We have a number of exciting speakers lined up, who will address this theme from some very different perspectives:

  • Solent Bluetits, who swim in the sea all through the winter months, and complete their Arctic Flapper Challenge on IWD itself;
  • Louise Millar, champion power lifter for Ireland;
  • Mandy Bright, from Gosport Voluntary Action;
  • Commodore Melanie Robinson RN, Commander of the Maritime Reserves based in HMS Collingwood;
  • Military Wives Choir – our local group will share their video singing Stronger Together.

As this will be a virtual event, we will create an opportunity to chat in smaller groups – about the inspiring things that our speakers have said as well as share our own challenges, successes and stories.

In the second part of the meeting we are launching the first of our Community Thankyous: this time, for Carers.  Caring, which is frequently carried out by women, can be a thankless, invisible task, and especially so during the pandemic. We want to make visible those selfless individuals – women and men – who are facing this daily challenge. Carolyn Barber from the Good Mental Health Co-op will talk about their work and Jane Wardner will share her experience as a local carer

To close the event with a celebration of local Carers, Cllr Kathleen Jones will be announcing awards for those who have been nominated by others for their selfless work during the pandemic. This will be followed by presenting them with a certificate and thank you gift after the event.

So, bring your drink and something to nibble and give yourself some time off! Join us for all or part of the event. We’ve put the timetable below, and we very much hope to see you there.

If you know someone who would like to join us but can’t access the internet, we can help! We have some tablets we can loan. Just contact us on women4women@stfaithslee.org.uk
